Your first question is probably "What is The Battle Arena?"
Basically, you create an imaginary character, and make a story about a battle your character had against another member's character. First you write a part of the battle, then the other member writes another part, then you write a part, and you continue like that until the battle reaches a natural end.
Since you are free to write anything you want, winning and losing hardly matters at all. A 2-month old new member can win over a 3-year old oldie, as long as that is the natural and normal outcome.
Now, I'm sure you're itching to get started.
First you should read the Rules. There shouldn't be anything shocking there, but you'd better check them out if you want to have a good start here.
Now, you need a character.
You should first read The Acceptance Policy, where you will find the main rules for Characters.
Now, copy and paste the approval form to a document on your computer (or a new thread if you think you can fill it out in one shot). A good idea is to imagine the character you want, then fill out the form as would fit that character. Once you are done, make a new thread in the Character Approval forum, with the name of the character as the thread name.
Then, wait for an approver to step by to either approve your character, or tell you what has to be changed.
Once your character has been approved, post its profile in the Character List. This is so you can easily find it later on.
Now, you are ready to battle!
Always when you are writing in a battle, you should mark any comments you have that are Out of Character with OoC, and, once you are done with that and wan to write in character, you should mark it with BiC (meaning Back in character), like:
"OoC: Great post, now check mine.
BiC: Grun narrowed his eyes and glared at the stranger..."
You can join in a battle someone else started, if they have said (anyone) in the thread title. If no one else has joined that battle, or it is open to more participants, you can just make a post about how your character got to the fight, and maybe some fighting. Note, it's common manners (and somewhat required) to make a link to the post with your character in the Character List.
You can also start a battle yourself by creating a new thread in the Battle Arena forum with the battle name as the thread title. Start the battle by making a link to the post with your character in the Character List. Then you should make a post that sets the scene for the battle and how your character got there. Be sure to describe the scenery carefully, so there won't be any arguments about it later on.
If you have any more questions, ask in the Newbies' Thread.
Good luck with your Battling, and I hope you make great posts!
We really encourage you to be carefull about how many battles you join. It is much better if you have one or two battles and write good posts with good context, than if you have five or six where you hardly can write anything, and have trouble keeping order of what has happened in which battle.
